Fine Motor Skills - Threading

Threading activities helps build the dexterity that a child will need for handwriting.

These pre-school threading activities are excellent / essential for  accelerating your child's pre-writing skills.

Many people refer to this as: 1/ Pre-writing skills    2/Finger gym   3/Fine motor skills development 

In any of these activities you can include other early learning goals such as sequencing, patterning, counting, creating….

Cheerios lion

The children have been asking to play this actvitiy all week and their fine motor progress has been astonishing...all you need is cheerios, pasta and playdough.

All these paper threading activities can be made age or ability appropriate by:

1/ altering the size of the hole

2/ printing the image A3 rather than A4 

3/ wrapping tape around the end of threading material (i.e string, thread, ribbon, wool, pipe cleaner, lace...) to make it easier to thread

4/ laminating the paper to make it stiffer and easier to hold

5/ add physical support and guidance such as holding the paper or helping steer the thread into the hole

4/ fish threading

5/ tiger threading

6/ crocodile threading
